From April 28th to June 17th, zAmya Theater Project is in residence at 825 Arts! Every Monday and Thursday from 3-5 PM, come to 825 Arts for collaborative theater workshops with zAmya. Designed by and for individuals who have experienced homelessness, these sessions serve as a platform for artistic skill-building, fostering social connections, and encouraging creative expression. They will culminate in an informal “shareformance” at an Art-BQ on June 17th!
People who’ve experienced homelessness especially encouraged to attend! We have coffee, snacks, and bus tokens (while supplies last). Email Esther, Company Manager, with questions and accessibility needs: esther@zamyatheater.org, 612-760-4804

Community Trauma Response Program

825 Arts will provide for the acute need for community access to safe, healing, creative spaces through their new Community Trauma Response Program. The goal is for this to be a responsive program available to the public any time there are events that provoke collective grief or trauma. In addition to offering creative resources, 825 will provide the community with information that directs them to low-cost/affordable mental health services, access to emotional and spiritual healers and bodyworkers, and places to find free food for people in need.
1. ) What inspires you to create? I love art that is accessible and affordable to everyone. Creating art – especially if it has a social justice angle with a sense of humor or absurdity thrown in – helps me be a bit happier in this kooky old world.
2.) When did you become an artist? I’ve been writing for awhile, but trying visual art kind of kicked off in earnest a little pre-pandemic
3.) Where are you from? I’m originally from Kansas and then lived in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve been in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul for the last 20+ years, so maybe I’m a local now?
4.) Who is your favorite artist ? The Gorilla Girls and Banksy are top shelf. Art+humor+social justice: heck yeah!
5.) Anything else folks should know about you? 825 Arts has been amazing to work with. Becoming an artist member has been a great experience, and I’d encourage artists – established or new- to give it a shot!
