Access at 825 Arts!

What is available?

We have 3 accessible bathrooms; two at the front of our building to the west side. The third is in the center of the building on the east side by the right side sound and light lock. Sharps containers are available, and the third bathroom includes a changing table. There is also a backstage bathroom for performers and crew. All bathrooms are single use and gender inclusive

Our theater includes reserved accessible seating, at the edges and backs depending on setup.

Our stage has the option of being raised or flat, depending on the renter/presenter/event. Please check our website for specific event information. We are happy to use ramps as needed. Our risers include railings and handrails as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Can I Park?

Parking is available on the corner of Avon and University at Ryan Plumbing. Accessible drop off, for those who need it, is available at Demera Ethiopian Restaurant next door to 825 Arts, though we ask you do not park there long term. Street parking is allowed on University Avenue after 6pm.

Is there an elevator?

Yes! Located behind the stairs on the East Side of the building is an accessible lift to the 2nd floor

Is any part of the building inaccessible?

Yes, our backstage Mezzanine, which has stairs only.

What is the maximum distance between two spaces?

120 feet, from the front of the building to the back.

Do you have a quiet room?

Yes! It is on the second floor. It includes speaker access to the theater, with volume controls, so guests can still hear performances. It is accessible via stairs or elevator. It is only locked when in use

Are there service dog relief areas?

We are surrounded by green space, just please remember to pick up after your dog!

Is there accessible public transit?

We are right on the Victoria Street stop of the Green Line Light rail. The stop has ramps, wheelchair friendly cars, and runs every 15 minutes.

Our Accessibility Statement

825 Arts is committed to full inclusion of all members of our community, including people with disabilities.

We are fully compliant with the ADA, and strive to go above and beyond the scope of legislation to create the most accessible space for all. As such, in 2026 we are doing dedicated accessibility reviews to our programs, building, and internal processes. Currently, we are working with our staff, board, and neighbors to develop and implement an accessibility transition plan which supports our community  to the best level possible.

Specific updates include:

• Conducting listening sessions with neighbors who are invested in making 825 Arts more accessible
  • To be completed by the end of August 2026
• A survey of community members to determine what they actually need
  • To be completed by September 2026
• A review of our building and its features, to ensure that all spaces meet standards
  • This includes a full audit of our building, reviewing each space in comparison to the 2010 Standards for Accessibility
  • Review completed by the end of August 2026; All updates to be made by December 2026
• A review of all our programs, to ensure equal participation for all
  • This includes a review of any standing accommodation requests, alongside an active audit of each program by our Accessibility Coordinator, completed by the end of August 2026.
• A review of our communications
  • Ensuring our social media is readable, listenable, and/or viewable to all
  • Revamping our websites to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards
  • Ensuring our flyers and print materials are easy and clear to read
  • And reviewing all our public communications language for easy understanding
• Establishment of a grievance procedure and accommodations request system for both staff and our broader communities
  • Completed by July 2026 (done!)
• Training of staff to best serve people with disabilities Frogtown and Rondo population
  • Base training to be done by the end of December 2026, ongoing training in perpetuum to match community needs.
• Appointment of an ADA Coordinator to implement this work
  • Done! Sara Smith (They/Them) is our new ADA coordinator and has been carrying out this work since January 2026.

Additional information: 

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. 825 Arts is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of our website do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Our website is currently undergoing changes to become fully compliant with AA standards of WCAG. Some accessibility features may have issues. If you find an issue, please let us know.

Parking is available on University Avenue after 6PM. Accessible drop off is available at our neighbor, Demera, at 823 University Ave W.
